Building links within the health and charity communities

Building links within the health and charities communities was the key focus of our work throughout May, by working at two community events in the South East London.

On the 12th, we were at the Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Annual Nursing Conference at the Danson Park Boat House.

We provided eight therapists to give ten minute tasters, including back massage, head and shoulders, and reflexology.

It was a lovely hot sunny day, so we arrived early and had a little stroll around the park beforehand. At 12.45pm, the conference broke for lunch and we set up very quickly. In the space of an hour we managed to provide therapies to approximately 50 people. It was quite hectic, and space was a little tight, but everyone enjoyed it.

Kate FGCFor our next outing, 29th May; we were at the Home-Start Greenwich Family Event, at Charlton Football Club.

Home-start supports young families, and manages Children’s Centre services within the Borough of Greenwich. Like ourselves, they rely on volunteers, and this event helped to raise funds for their very valuable work.

Children had the opportunity to play mini football games on the pitch, before the main event – a Charity Football Match between the Charlton Athletic Trust & All Stars and the Sainsbury’s Staff team.

There was also a number of fun stalls in the hospitality suite.

It was very well attended, and all the children were extremely well-behaved and a credit to their parents. We provided four therapists to give back or head and shoulders massages. In two hours, we managed 45 tasters. The atmosphere was great, and everyone had a good time.

Following on our activities in May, we were once again at the Oxleas NHS Trust Staff ‘Away Day’ at Shrewsbury House Community Centre, on the 16th June.

We have done this event before, and the same two therapists were requested again. We were providing the final two workshops of the day, Basic Indian Head Massage Techniques and Stretching/Healthy Lifestyle Hints and Tips. As we were sharing the same room, much hilarity ensued, but everyone enjoyed themselves.
