Championing community wellbeing in Thamesmead

With restrictions lifted and everyone allowed to socialise once more, we have been championing community wellbeing in Thamesmead by providing taster therapies at community-based and corporate events.

This year, we have already provided services at eight community events.

Family Fun Days with the Moorings Community Group

Kate was with our good friends at the Hawksmoor Youth Hub in March and April.

These free events take a huge amount of organisation and work by the staff and there is always a fantastic atmosphere. There were many activities for the children, while the adults were able to treat themselves to a Head and Shoulders Massage or Reflexology. As usual, the food was delicious.

In February, although we were between storms, unfortunately the rain hammered down. There were fewer attendees then normal, but Kate had a steady stream of people throughout the afternoon.

‘I was very tense and a bit stressed, but after my massage I was feeling much more relaxed. Kate is wonderful and really knows her stuff. I am going to book a full massage next week.’

In April, however, the weather was lovely, and the Hawksmoor was packed. Teddi was kept busy booking clients in, and Kate managed to provide therapies to sixteen visitors within three hours.

‘So relaxing, I will definitely be booking an appointment with Feel Good.’

The next event will take place on the 13th August.

Honouring the women of Thamesmead and the surrounding area

Every March we celebrate International Women’s Day.

First up, on 8th of March, Paula and Kate were with our good friends at the Her Centre in Woolwich. The weather was glorious so there was a great turnout. This event promotes women’s wellbeing, with a number of presentations, the opportunity to meet health professionals and a mental health awareness session. Coincidentally, International Women’s Day was the last event that we did before the start of Lock Down in 2020.

We provided Back Massage, Head and Shoulders Massage and Reflexology. As usual, we were fully booked, although we did have time to enjoy a speedy and delicious lunch.

Below are a couple of the comments that we received:

‘I really enjoyed the massage. The therapists were very professional and friendly.’
‘A great massage that felt amazing! I would recommend having it as a weekly event. I will definitely be booking. Thank you!’

Just over two weeks later, on the 25th March, Feel Good Co-operative provided services at another International Women’s Day event hosted by Peabody, at the Nest in Thamesmead.

We were blessed with good weather again, and there was a great turn out. Throughout the day, there were a number of presentations and activities, and even something for the under-fives.

Situated in the centre’s new therapy room, Paula and Kate were offering Back Massage, Head and Shoulders Massage and Reflexology. There was a huge demand, and Georgia very kindly gave her time to do the bookings for us and organise the queue.

Paula and Kate provided taster therapies to 30 clients between them, and managed to grab a quick 15-minute break to get something to eat and have a brief chat with a few of our good friends.

Although though there were the usual issues with finding parking, a big thank you to the Peabody staff, plus Kate and Mandy, for having everything so well organised.

It was definitely a really great day, and below are a few of the comments we received:

‘The Reflexology was really good for reducing tension.’
‘The Head and Shoulders Massage was amazing, extremely relaxing, and enjoyable. My therapist, Kate, was obviously very experienced.’
‘Great Back Massage! Thank you very much.’

In heart of the Abbey Wood community

After a two years gap, Kate and Teddi finally returned to their regular slot at the Abbey Wood Village Market hosted by our good friends, Chris and Cat. We owe a very big thank you to the lovely staff in the Abbey Arms for allowing us the use of the events room.

On the 5th March, the weather was definitely not good, but Feel Good had a steady stream of clients seeking a little relaxation in the warmth.

‘Excellent! I feel amazing – thank you so much.’

On Saturday 2nd April, both Teddi and Kate were back in the cosy Abbey Arms event room promoting Feel Good Co-operative.
Teddi was busy in her role as Brand Ambassador, talking to everyone who passed, whilst Kate was busy providing Back Massage, Head and Shoulders Massage and Reflexology.

The weather was a great improvement on the previous month, although we had a bit of competition from the food festival in Welling. We had plenty of clients throughout the day, but still found time for one of Nick’s delicious hotdogs.

‘Very, very impressed! A great massage from start to finish – thank you very much!’
‘Amazing – an excellent massage!’

The Market takes place on the first Saturday, every month, so come and see us on the 7th May.

Other events

On the 11th February, Kate and Paula provided services to the Sendtivate staff and members at Sporting Club Thamesmead. This organisation provides valuable support to young people and their families. There was a great party atmosphere, and Kate and Paula were extremely busy during the evening.

‘I would like to thank Paula and Kate for coming in today. I have heard so much about the Feel Good Co-op, but really had no idea what to expect. Simply the best!’

On the 31st March, Kate was back with the lovely people from the Caribbean Social Forum in Woolwich. She was fully booked before the start, and the members thoroughly enjoyed a Head and Shoulders Massage or Reflexology session.

‘I was amazed that a 15 minute massage could make such a difference!’

And finally:

We are staffed entirely by volunteers. Although a few of our volunteers have remained in employment throughout the last two years, the majority of our therapists are self-employed and are still having to work additional hours to make up the short-fall during lock-down.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all the time and effort they continue to put in to making the Feel Good Co-operative so successful. Whether front of house, or behind the scenes, we are extremely grateful for the enormous contribution our volunteers make.

We are looking forward to another propitious year, and to continue championing community wellbeing within Thamesmead and surrounding areas.
